The quickest way to lose a client

Before your day gets away from you, I want to share one thing.

I want to share one thing with you this morning. This is what the best do. Just one thing. Get a list of your best clients and pick up the phone. It does not matter whether you have spoken to them before or not. When they answer, say this:

“I am not ringing to sell you anything. I am ringing because you have been a good customer to us, and I just wanted to say thank you. And whilst I have you, I would love your advice. Is there one thing we could do better for you? Anything we do not currently offer that you wish we did?”

Then you stop talking. You do not fill the silence. You do not jump in. And here is the part that will test you.

Even if they say something you have heard before. Even if they suggest something you have already tried. Even if every instinct in your body wants to open your mouth and say, “We looked at that, it did not work,” you say none of it.

Not a word.

You listen. You take notes. You say, “That is really interesting. I am going to look at that seriously.” And you mean it.

Because the moment you dismiss what they are saying, even once, even politely, the call is over. Not the phone call. The relationship.

You are the boss. Nobody else in your business makes that call the way you do. And right now, in this market, that call is worth more than thirty things you had on your list this morning.

Make it today. Before the day gets away from you.
