Start Monday the way closers do

Every director knows the feeling. The words leave your mouth, and you already know you have lost it. The ask was weak, the language was waffly, and somewhere in the middle of explaining yourself, you handed the other person the exit they were looking for.

Deals do not die because your offer is wrong. They die because your delivery gave someone permission to say no.

The fix is brutal in its simplicity. Clear, direct language followed by silence. No softening, no options, no over-explanation. Say what you want, state what you need, then stop talking.

Silence is not awkward when you are the one who chose it. It is the most powerful negotiating tool a director has, and it costs nothing. Use it in every conversation this week and watch how quickly the dynamic shifts.
