Please don’t wait until it’s urgent

“I’ll sort the finance next week.” Six weeks later…

There’s something I love hearing from a director.

“Mark, we probably won’t need the money for another two or three months, but I wanted to speak to you now.”

That tells me they’re looking ahead. They’ve spotted a potential gap and given themselves time to consider it properly.

It’s a much better conversation to have than, “We need the money by Friday.”

I know how easily it happens. You’re busy. Customers need you. Staff need you. Sorting the finance gets pushed into next week, then the week after.

Meanwhile, the situation you saw coming gets closer.

If your financial position weakens while you’re waiting, the options available could change too. Borrowing may become more expensive, security requirements may increase, or an application may be declined.

An early conversation gives us time to understand what you need, prepare the information and work out when an application makes sense.

It doesn’t mean you have to borrow today.

So before you finish this Friday, think about the next two or three months. Is there a point where cash could get tight? An order to fund? A payment you’re relying on?

If something comes to mind, give me a shout.

“I don’t need it yet” is a perfectly good reason to call.
